Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a specific learning difficulty, it is specific to language and includes both oral and written language. It is not indicative of intelligence, psychological, motivational, vision or social difficulties. People with dyslexia have difficulty with language, which is significantly mismatched with their potential and performance in other areas.

People with dyslexia may exhibit difficulties in the use of short-term memory. This is the memory that lets you hold information in your head for a short period; an example of this is looking up a telephone number and then holding it in memory while dialling. Most people can remember 6 numbers for a short period.

The short-term memory difficulty may also affect the ability to organise and may lead to being easily distracted. Appearing at the correct room with the appropriate equipment at the right time and date all relies on holding information in short term memory while keeping the overview in mind.

Some indicators of dyslexia are: -
A significant mismatch between potential and performance
Persistently bad and erratic spelling
Mis-reading familiar words, leading to slow reading rates
Being very poor at following listed instructions
